When applying for MassHealth benefits, eligibility can be established up to three months prior to the month of application.
While most of us desire to live out our days in our own home, many of us will need help as our health and capabilities change. Some of us will need the help of an in-home care provider, while others of us will need the kind of care only available at a nursing home. Whatever the case, many of us will need some level of assistance.
Living in their own community is often the client’s ideal, whether that means living in a personal residence with in-home supports or in an assisted living facility. Numerous MassHealth programs exist for funding care in the community, such as PACE (“Program for All-inclusive Care for the Elderly”) and waivers for home and community-based care. We can assist in sorting through the available options and in gaining eligibility for community MassHealth programs. We are experienced in all stages of applying for MassHealth benefits, from the initial application, to negotiating approval with MassHealth caseworkers, to representation at fair hearings.
In addition, if skilled care is needed, we assist with MassHealth applications for nursing home care. MassHealth rules are complex and restrictive. Our staff and attorneys can help explain the eligibility requirements, file the initial application, and shepherd the application through the review process towards eligibility.
