Peter Sturges serves as senior counsel, advising individuals and non-profit organizations in the application of the Massachusetts conflict of interest and campaign finance laws. He is also an integral advisor to the firm’s trustee practice, bringing years of practical experience working with trusts and a variety of financial institutions and investment advisors.
Peter has been practicing law in the private and public sectors for 40 years. His public service includes ten years as general counsel to the Office of Campaign & Political Finance and seven years as executive director of the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission. He also served as legal counsel to the Department of Mental Health, Department of Education, and the Office for Children. Peter currently serves as the chairman of Common Cause Massachusetts.
Peter is the editor and an author of the award-winning publication, Massachusetts Election Administration, Campaign Finance and Lobbying Law (MCLE 2000). Peter is a graduate of Harvard College, Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and Northeastern University School of Law, and is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts. When not practicing law, Peter enjoys sculling on the Charles River (in good weather), playing the piano and his family–particularly his three grandchildren.
