Attorney

Over the years, I have served as the estate planning attorney for a thousand-plus families and individuals. I love what I do. The joy (and challenge) of my work is to put in place an estate plan for each client that protects and supports their loved ones, minimizes family conflict, protects their assets, reduces taxes, and addresses the challenges of aging – all within the complexities, opportunities, and even dysfunction inherent to families. Working together, we take our best shot at planning for whatever the future may hold. My work encompasses both the technical and the profound, ultimately helping my clients prepare for their best possible life, their death, and potential incapacity.
I also work with our estate settlement team to identify and transfer assets to loved ones, file tax returns, and, when needed, address conflicts that can arise when a loved one dies. Finally, my work includes serving as trustee, a multi-faceted role that involves working closely with investment advisors to ensure assets are protected and growing, with CPAs for effective tax planning and compliance, and with trust beneficiaries making distributions and providing a mentoring role during key moments in their lives. I find each aspect of my work extremely rewarding and am grateful for the talented team I am privileged to lead and work side-by-side with each day.
Outside the office, you can find Eva and me spending time with our children and granddaughter, laughing, biking, lounging, or growing things in the backyard that taste really good. I am also actively involved in a local teaching and pastoral ministry. Over the years, I have enjoyed serving on many boards of directors, including the Arlington Soccer Club and several educational and religious organizations. As a fun fact, I am also a former beekeeper and shepherd, growing up on a 70-acre “hobby farm” in Minnesota.
