I work in all practice areas at Pathway Law. In estate planning, I draft documents, especially trusts, to ensure our clients’ goals are achieved, especially when those goals fall outside the usual box. Just as important is my work providing recommendations for funding trusts and answering client questions concerning their beneficiary designations. I also work with the rest of our estate planning team to guide our clients through the process and provide support.
I also work with our estate settlement team to provide services ranging from identifying and gathering assets to administering trusts and preparing estate tax returns. I work directly with our clients to gather the necessary information and answer any questions they have. Finally, I provide support and mentoring to other team members. I have always enjoyed puzzles—jigsaw, word, logic, and number—and I bring that puzzle-solving attitude to all my work.
Outside of Pathway Law, I am a wife, mother, and grandmother. My favorite thing is to gather with my family, preferably without an agenda but always with good food. I enjoy growing things that are delicious to eat or beautiful to see, and I am always learning how to make more of the natural bounty around us. I also enjoy spending time with friends in our ministry, reading, and solving puzzles.
Professional Background
I received my Bachelor of Science from the University of Iowa (1980) and my PhD from Princeton University (1987), both in chemical engineering. After working in industry for thirteen years, I left the field for the amazing experience of homeschooling our children. During this time, I started at Pathway Law as bookkeeper and systems expert. For the past ten years now, I have been drafting documents, preparing estate tax and gift tax returns, and guiding clients through the estate and trust administration process. My engineering background allows me to both see the big picture and zoom in on details, considering possible scenarios and outcomes that help create effective and valuable estate plans for our clients.
